Millet Recipes

Welcome to the world of Millet. Millet is a pseudo-grain that has gained popularity in the recent times. Not only are these healthy but they are also gluten-free.

Once considered as old-fashioned and boring, millets have now gained a spot at the centrestage of healthy eating. They are now referred to as miracle grains.

Millets- Sirudhaniyam

We call them Sirudhaniyam or Siri Dhaniyalu and it is well justified. These little grains are nutritional powerhouses.

In India, there are several types of millet. Since these do not require much water for cultivation, they are usually grown in dry and hot regions. The most popular types of millet are positive millets.

Why are they called positive millets?

They are called so because they are rich in fiber, are useful in regulating blood sugar and other lifestyle diseases.

What are the five positive millets?

Browntop millet, Kodo millet, Little millet, Barnyard millet and Foxtail millet are called positive millets.

What are the neutral millets?

Other than the five mentioned above, we also have finger millet, sorghum, pearl millet and proso millet. These millets are classified as neutral millets.

Of all the millets, eating positive millets is considered the most beneficial.

In general, people who have thyroid related issues should restrict consuming neutral millets. Always consult your doctor before making any dietary changes if you have a lifestyle disease like diabetes, PCOS or hypothyrodism.
