Servings: 4

Equipment

  • 1 Air fryer
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 set of measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 1 lb sweet potatoes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt or to taste
  • 3/4 tsp dried rosemary
  • 2.5 tbsp olive oil

For garnish

  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro finely chopped

For serving

  • 2 lemon wedges
  • 1/4 cup Vegan ranch dip or any dipping sauce of choice

Instructions

Prep work

  • Wash the sweet potatoes well.
  • Use a scrubbing brush to get rid of any mud.
  • Peel them using a potato peeler.
  • Using a sharp knife, chop them into 1/4 inch thick fingers.
  • To do this easily, slice them lengthwise first and then chop the slices into long fingers.

How to make sweet potato fries?

  • Place the chopped sweet potatoes in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the oil, dried rosemary and seasonings.
  • Combine everything, making sure that the fries are evenly coated with the seasonings.
  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  • Arrange the potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Make sure there are no overlaps. Avoid overcrowding the basket.
  • Air fry them at 380F (195C) for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking them every 5 minutes once.
  • Keep an eye on them after 12 minutes to prevent them from becoming dry and brittle.
  • When done, carefully remove them from the air fryer basket.
  • Garnish with finely chopped fresh cilantro.
  • Serve hot with a squeeze of lemon and any sauce of your choice.

Notes

  1. Chop them up evenly. This will give you evenly air fried fries. Use a sharp paring knife to do this efficiently. I recommend chopping them into 1/4 inch thick fingers.
  2. Do not overcrowd the basket. Overcrowding will steam the potatoes instead of roasting them. The sweet potatoes must be arranged in a single layer without any overlaps.
  3. No preheating is required for this recipe.
  4. I have a 5.5 quart air fryer. The basket is fairly large and can accommodate 1.5 pounds of chopped sweet potatoes easily. If your basket is smaller, make the fries in smaller batches.
  5. Air fryer timings may vary based on the brand and model of the air fryer you own.
  6. I have a basket style air fryer. But you can make this in a toaster style air fryer too. Since the toaster oven style air fryer cooks faster, reduce the temperature to 350 F (180 C) and cook for 10 minutes
  7. Don't have an air fryer? You can bake these in the oven too. Preheat the oven to 400 F (200 C). Prep the fries. Place them on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until they are crispy, turning them mid way.
  8. Serve them immediately after they are done. They tend to lose their crispiness once they are cold. To reheat leftover fries, put them back in the basket and cook until reheated and crisped up again.
